hey again, i have a '62 40 hp johnson rk 24, and on the recoil starter one of the pawls looks to be jumping out of its track and getting caught in the engage position, does any one know what might cause this to happen? I just wanted to clean it up for ease of use and didn't think there was any problems with it. will it usually hit the thing on the flywheel before it has any chance to jump out of its track? thanks

The only way they can jump out is if something is worn - either the pawl itself, or the stop. Also, are all three springs present? That should pull them back.
