Hey all, I was getting ready to take boat out today for first time of season. I stopped to put gas in and I got concerned the more it was going. I soon got to 28 gallons and stopped because I know it only holds like 25. I obviously have a pretty significant leak in tank somewhere. How do I get to it? And where is all that gas leaking to??

Are you sure you had the nozzle in the filler tube and not a rod holder in the gunnel. Usually I pump the gas into my boat, twice two separate friends on two separate times thought they would be proactive and grab the gas hose and start filling the tank. As I was walking back to the boat from paying the cashier I noticed they had the hose in a rod holder, each time we had several gallons of gas pumped into the bilge. Now only I pump the gas. What kind of boat do you have? Is the tank foamed in or surrounded by a bulkhead?

Yes im positive I had nozzle in my gas tank where the gas cap is 😂 I have a 98/99 Suntracker Party Deck 21 (not a pontoon, it's a deck boat) I cannot see the tank. I'm assuming it's somewhere under the back bench seats and battery compartment and under floor board. It is also completely covered by the hull on bottom of boat.

I would recommend raising the bow of the boat a couple of feet with the plug out of the stern. If there's free liquid in there, it should make it to the drain that way. If not, then you'll need to check the tank visually for leaks, stringers and floatation foam for absorption.

If after a visual search you still can't locate the tank, probably time to call the local Tracker dealer.

I sure wouldn't try starting the boat.

If this is the boat I think it is, it's one of several aluminum deck boats built under different brand names (Grumman and Lowe are 2 others) by OMC. I have a 19' and a 22' and have had the tanks out of both of them to replumb. The tank is 30 gallons I believe, and is located below the floor (not very handy to work on!). Located mid ship, the back of the tank would be under the rear seat, the front about even with the front of the console.

If you put 28 gallons in, and you smell nothing in the bilge, I'd have a look at the gas gauge to see if it's full?
