I currently have a Chrysler 70hp motor. From my research, I believe these motors were maufactured between 1971-1974?? I recently came across another 70hp motor for a very reasonable price. Not sure when each were manufactured, but can I swap out parts from one to another?? Thanks

Re: Parts motor question?

Post the serial# and model# and someone can tell U when it was made.
Usually the older 70 Chryslers were good for swapping parts.Even if they were made a few years apart.J

Re: Parts motor question?

The "parts" motor I am looking at had #85680 on the engine block. Couldn't find any other numbers other than that one.
I will have to get the number off the motor I have now. It has a plate on the motor.
Thanks

Re: Parts motor question?

As long as it is not a Force engine, almost all parts will swap. The Force 70 and 75 were completely different.

Sorry for the dumb question, but how can I tell if it is a Force engine?

Re: Parts motor question?

basically, it will say Force pn the cowl and it will be blue or black in color rather than Chrysler white. Force was the brand name assigned when Chrysler sold out to Brunswick. While most engines remained the same, after, say, 1989, (not sure on the date) Brunswick (U.S. Marine) made a 70 horsepower engine with the same basic block, but many associated systems were different and many components were not interchangeable with other three cylinder engines--85 and 90 HP.

Just out of curiosity, what would a good parts motor like this be worth?

Re: Parts motor question?

Depending upon what is usable and what (for example) I think I might need from it, I might pay anywhere from 50 to 150 bucks. Now, on ebay, they tend to overbid and you might end up spending more--might end up spending less too. I once won an engine for one dollar, but it cost me 70 bucks in gas and tolls to pick it up.
A dealer might ask more, simply because he doesn't need to get rid of it and can hang on. On the other hand, a dealer with a lot of scrap who is thinking about sending all his junkpile to the scrapyard might ask less.

In short, it is supply and demand and what you are willing to pay.

Re: Parts motor question?

All Chryslers 70, 75 and 85Hp from late 60 to midd 80 are allmost everything interchangable. The gearcase were changed in 76-77 to a onepiece case but you can swap the hole lower unit, but not parts. Then Chrysler used different ign.systems. Battey points, CDI battery points/electronic eye and CDI selfgenerated power (magneto). The hole ign.system are interchangeable, even some parts.
