I have a mercury force 120 that keeps eating starters. I want to make sure that I have the right starter but can’t find any info on my motor. I found the model and serial #s on the swivel mount and they are
Model 1208f92c
Serial. 026231
Any help finding info on this motor would be appreciated

""keeps eating starters.""

burns them up?
bendix stripped?
they just don't turn, or spin fast enough?
What starters have you been using? Sierra, Mercury, Arco, or some cheap chinese knock off by Total power, caltric, or Gladiator ??

A real starter is gonna cost you, $150 - $200. Not $46.

The model number should read more like H1208F92C which makes the engine a 1992 FORCE, 120-HP...Here's a parts guide for your 120_HP, https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury...0/120 H.P. (1990-1994)/0e000001-thru-0e093699

Being a Force engine, the serial number should start with an "E" but adding an E to your number suggests the engine a 1991-95 "70"_HP...

Need to watch the FORCE - 120 H.P. (1990-1994) - IGNITION COMPONENTS (91D,92C) Vs 'FORCE - 120 H.P. (1990-1994) - IGNITION COMPONENTS (90A,91C) Numbers as the flywheels are different.

A deep look in to the starter part number may suggest a few variances but seem to come back to the number shown in the parts guide above..., https://www.perfprotech.com/starter-motor-898265002/product/208440

Does your starter have the lower mounting bracket on the starter?
#17 in the diagram?
