Hello,

Is there a chart somewhere on the net that shows compatibility of swapping parts on outboards? Basically what part fits what year(s)?

I?m after a lower unit case for cosmetic purpose only. There is a broken rib on mine. There?re a few on ebay that are close to the same year as my 64? RDSL-26R manual shift and they look the same. I just need to cross-reference it some how. It?d hate to pass up on a good deal on one if the opportunity should arrive.

Thanks again fellows.

I believe everything from 1960 up to 1969 would be the same for yours. You could even go later and earlier. The best thing to do is, verify the casting number on the housing, with the one that you want to get. I believe that you'll find that number on the inside of the housing, where the exhaust cavity is.

The return water line on yours goes back to the water pump. Starting around 1969(ish) it went to a grommet in the gearcase. That's what you have to look out for.

Another clue: if it has the long bypass plate on the side of the gearcase, you will be ok.

Well, here's the reply:

"It does have the return line to water pump but does not have that plate you are mentioning, and i can't locate any # to help you make a decision. Sorry, but just don't have the knowledge on these older engines to give you any additional info."

I also asked for additional pictures but that doesn't seem to be happening. Off to the next one...

I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Thanks,

Must be a 1968 (a one-year) gearcase, if so, it will work. 1968 had two water tubes to the water pump and one to the water inlet. 1969-up had one tube to the water pump and the second one went down into the gearcase near the inlet tube. That one will not work unless you want to change the water tubes (a major operaton).
