Hi, I have a Johnson 85 hp, 1974, and I saw a 1973 Evinrude 100 hp parts motor for sale. Would the parts from this motor fit my johnson? and would I be able to change my johnson to a 100 hp? The parts motor is seized, but everything else is good. What parts are different between the 85 and the 100? just carbs? Thanks

Re: parts compatibility

I have a funny feeling (based on the fact that OMC did not make a 1973 100 hp) that the 100 hp is a 1972 or older. Thats a different V4.

However, if the 100 is a bit newer (mid to late 80's) then thats great!

Get the model number from the 100. That'll solve the misery -- I mean mystery.

BTW -- whats wrong with your 85 hp?

Vegard, Don't waste your money!: the parts you can use are from 85, 115 and 135. Try to stay within 1973-1975 if you can.

Re: parts compatibility

btw, nothing is wrong with my motor, I would just like to have more junk in the garage. And my engine is a bit underpowered for my boat. I wonder if I can upgrade it to a 115, or a 135. Is the block the same? whats the difference between those v4 motors?
Thanks

Yes, you can bore your 85 to the 3.500" of the 115. A couple of things though -- you would have to increase the ports to the 115 porting. Not a big deal if you have the equipment. The second thing is to get the 115 or 140 heads. I use the 115 heads.

Good luck!

Re: parts compatibility

I asked the seller of the other motor what the part number is. This is what he gave:
100193c
Which motor is it, and is it any good?

thanks guys, I apprechiate it. dhadley, I dont think I want to tear into my block right now... it was recently resleeved. But next time I do, Ill definitely do an upgrade.
I think I might pick up that motor if I can get it really cheap, just to see if I can unstick it and get it running.
