Parts Compatibility 6hp and 5.5hp

So I have this 1962 5.5 Johnson in my shed that I have quit using because it has a worn out clutch dog although it runs good. My neighbor has a mid 60's 6hp Johnson that as far as I can remember had a good lower end and didn't run the greatest. My question is are these two outboards compatible?

go to marinengine dot com, and cross reference #'s. good chance things will mingle, but ???

377458 clutch dog was used at least 1958 through 1978. But there have been other changes during that period. Nothing that can't be overcome if you know what you are doing. One of the changes is the propeller and prop shaft. Another is the shift rod and disconnect.
