max, i'll try to be brief; I can appreciate what you're saying.
i don't like disheartening articles on this forum, but i do wish you well in your quest. i don't know crap about salmon waters, and i got a headache trying to read your 'dissertation', but i do get the jist - this Johnston section is getting annihilated by commercial fishermen, even against the wishes of locals. so it looks like you need to raise awareness at the local level - good luck, buddy. pls call the local tv station and get their attn, don't spread doom & gloom in here, that's why i don't subscribe to local newspapers! jeez
ok, i guess you have a right just like i do. and at least you didn't paste your whole deal in here. can you give me some good news?

Re: Part of the History of Overfishing Salmon

Max, I can feel only a tiny bit better about what's happening in Washington (state) and Oregon. Our fish agencies keep very close tabs on the commercial fishery in, say, the Columbia River and Puget Sound, but for obvious reasons, usually don't have a real clue about what's happening before they get here.
There are two conditions that have improved: 1) we are making good progress in hatching habitat, but, of course, much more needs to be done; 2) the "war" that goes on between Canadian and US fishers seems to be abating.
On a very positive note, we're experiencing for the 2nd consecutive year a large spring and fall run in the Columbia. We trust El Nino will stay away.
Good luck in what appears to be your chosen profession.

Thanks, Capn Mike. I'm going to post your comment on my Web page, with a reference to iboats.com. Since most people use nicknames (and since it's often difficult to verify their identities), I leave the names off.

Max
