Just to show you guys that the moderators job here at iboats is not just to make your lives miserable by closing threads, but also to attempt to keep the spam to a minimum.
Here is a couple of pictures of the first 2 pages of the Boat Topics and Questions (not engine topics) forum today, something you don't ever get to see. It shows all the threads on the page, including the deleted ones (Yes, the mods can see the deleted threads too). The deleted threads are grayed out normally, but since they are so small in these pictures, I put red stars by the deleted posts.
As you can see, the spammers are having a lot of fun here posting their drivel. Thanks to your reported posts, we usually get them deleted fairly quickly (within minutes). So keep up the good work and we will keep smiting the worthless spammers off of iboats as soon as possible. And don't click on their links, you don't know where those nasty things have been.

Re: Part of our moderator jobs.

Don, I appreciate the Job the Mods do and I think you guys do an excellent job even though I disagree with closing a thread here and there.

Thank you and the other Mods for the unappreciated jobs you do

But it is the on-line shopping season and the marketing guru's (even if they may be from foreign countries) are just slamming every place they can. It is similar to many stores that have decorated for the holidays. Yes, the mods have been busy (Kudo's to Don and JB...... who are wearing out their SMITE buttons ;))

Please be tolerant and THANK YOU!! to everyone who has reported and continuing to keep watch :D

Re: Part of our moderator jobs.

Everyone, PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT on the spam threads. Just click the triangle exclamation point report button. Posting to it is not helpful and can in fact be detrimental. When we're scanning over threads and see a suspect thread but it has a recent comment from a known member, we may think it's legit when it isn't. Report report report. Thanks.

We would be far less effective without you guys who spot and report violations (including, but not limited to spam) promptly.

A big thanks to you guys. :)

Maybe try setting a requirement of 5 posts before you can start new threads. Figgin spammers
Or an introduction forum/queue so they have to be approved before they can post.

Re: Part of our moderator jobs.

I see the liquidation of Powerquest Boats got swept up with the spam.
Too bad, it's actually an active topic at some other places.

Re: Part of our moderator jobs.

I had insomnia early this a.m and clicked on the "german wives" in boat topics late last night, thinking it was a joke posted in the wrong forum. I realized immediatly what it really was and thought of trying to alert the mods, but it was 1+ a.m. eastern time. Can subscribers alert the mods somehow of suspected spammers? or is this not needed?

Just click on the report post button at the bottom of the offending post. Then in the text box that pops up, just type in what you think the problem is, and click on send report.
Then, all the mods get the email, and the first one to see it will take care of the problem.

The mods never sleep. About the longest I've seen for a spammer to disappear is 5 minutes. Last night when the spammer shotgunned with the Polish replies I used Google translate to see what he posted. Took maybe 45 seconds and I went to report the post and it was already gone. Thanks guys and gals for keeping the peace!!!!!

WOW!!! You Mod's do a great job of keeping the spam cleaned up. I would have never thought there was that many spam posts.
