Is it legal to park a boat on a city street? I live in the Seattle city limits and have no idea if it is or not. Do others know if their cities allow it?<br /><br />I guess i should mention the size of my boat. Its a 18' O/B bow rider.<br /><br />Thanks

Sounds risky as it sits 9' from the curb. Check with local law enforcement, and your insurance carrier.

Thanks for the link I would have never found that. According to this is says i can't since its over 80 inches wide. Unless I find a industrial zone!<br /><br />SMC 11.72.070 Commercial and large size vehicles.<br /><br /> No person shall park a vehicle on any street or alley, except in a<br />Manufacturing or Industrial Zone as defined in the Zoning Code of<br />Seattle (Ordinance 86300 as amended)1 between the hours of<br />midnight and six (6) a.m. if the vehicle is a truck and/or trailer or<br />other conveyance which is over eighty (80) inches wide.<br /><br />(Ord. 108200 Section 2( 11.72.070), 1979.)<br /><br />1. Editor's Note: The Zoning Code is codified in Title 24 of this Code.

I have to do the same here in Madison, WI. I checked and it is legal to park a boat on the street - just needs to be moved every 48hrs. I live on a suburban street, so I can get away with leaving it for longer if I need to. That doesn't happen much cuz I'm usually out fishing every couple of days anyhow. I keep my boat covered and looking tidy, so I don't annoy my neighbors too much.

Finding the actual law as you have done is the best thing. I would be concerned about security as much as anything else. Electronics, fishing equipment, PFDs, even the prop could dissapear. :(

Now in my first house with a HOA. You can't even park your car on the street overnight!

Hey I'm in Seattle too. FYI, the Parking Enforcement Officers will ticket you if you leave your boat on a trailer on the street not attached to a truck. They will hassle you if your trailer is not hitched to the ball, however the technical definition of "connected" in the law is not defined. So I got away with chaining my boat to my truck to allow me to tilt it back (not hitched) to allow water to flow out when it rained. But I had to take the ticket to court and have it thrown out.

Meanwhile thanks for the 80" thing; I didn't know.

The HOA note made me laugh. My first house was in a development, and I was "scolded" for parking my boat in the driveway (17' Bowrider in perfect condition). 6 months later we sold that house and now live on 50 acres, 1/4 mile off the road, where I can store anything I want!
