Painting Trailer????

I have 1977 Roadrunner Trailer that I am restoring. It is a twin axle with brakes on both axles and it sits under a 1977 Thunderbird Signa 18 with a 190 OMC Sterndrive. Enough of that. What I am asking is when I am done with the trailer should I spare the expense of powdercoating or just paint it with a good marine paint.

Oh yeah BTW it will a combination of salt water and fresh water. Probably more fresh than salt. I remember we did my Dad's trailer and we used a green marine primer as a undercoat and then some good rustoleum for the finish paint,it still looks good after fifteen years of mainly salt water use.

Powdercoat? Only unless you really love your trailer... and love spending money. I would think that a quality paint job would get you 10+ years. And a heck of a lot cheaper too. Either way should do just fine.

Re: Painting Trailer????

I just got a quote to sandblast and powder coat my trailer for $450. I am getting another quote for sandblast and paint on Tuesday. Paint will have to be over $100 cheaper for me to consider it over powder coat. My trailer is just under 20' long.

Yeppers I recieved a quote for my 21' trailer for $500. I figure the paint and supplies and my labor will come to about $400 so for about $100 more I will figure what I will do.

You're already talking $450.00 not including paint, paint brushes, tape, labor, lights, wires, etc. A new trailer would be around $1K. You'll probably invest that much into it anyway.
