Painting Trailer and Rims

As a fall project I want to paint my trailer and rims. The trailer is a '80 loadrite with a fair amount of surface rust. The rims also have some rust, I pulled 2 of the 4 wheels off tonight. My question is: does anydody have any tips on painting over rust? I was going to wire brush off the heavy stuff and scrap off any loose paint and paint over it with rustoleum. Any hints/tips are welcome!

I am using "extend" from Lock-tite....It does the same thing. Then priming and painting with rustoleom.<br /><br />I am just finishing the painting so I don't know how it will hold up over time.<br /><br />Mike

vaccfam,<br /><br />I did the same thing to my trailer back in the late 80's. Believe it or not it has help up really well. There are a few spots that are rusting now but heck its probably been 15 years!
