Hey everyone. I am the treasurer for a college club rowing team. We have just recieved several new boats from an anonymous donor, which is fantastic, but we also need to purchase new equipment and update our old. Specifically, I need to buy paint for our oars. My coach has instructed me to buy brightside polyurethane from Interlux. I was wondering if this is really the best paint for rowing oars, how much paint I might need for approx. 40-60 oars (in quarts, not exactly sure how many new oars were donated). In addition, what else would I need to buy in terms of paint removal and cleaning? Thanks for anyonee who knows how to help. Sorry if this isn't the forum for this question.

Welcome
Interlux Brightside is a good quality paint, it also has UV protection to keep it from fading

As with all painting, the prep work is most important prior to paint. The folks at Interlux are very helpful and suggest just give them a call. They can advise as to how much and how to prep.

another option is Axlta coatings (marine Imron). the stuff is fantastic, a bit better than the interlux, however a bit pricey. avoid red as that is the most expensive marine paint, where white is the least expensive.

There is also a lower cost option which is oil based enamel from rustoleum or majic and a hardener. that is covered in link # 19 in the stickies. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/how-tos-and-other-great-information.283508/

the sticky also has a good roll on roll technique

If you are going to brush, you will want to ad a leveling agent and make drying boards (a bit of plywood with a bunch of nails or screws thru it to support the work piece) so there is minimal contact with a surface while the paint dries.

if you spray, use the appropriate PPE
