I have a 2002 Honda 50 motor and need to repaint the motor cover and replace the decals. Does anyone know the paint code?
I was going to use the spray paint cans from Honda but I can?t have them shipped to me in Spain, and the cans here cost about $240.00 for 1 can of silver and 1 can of the clearcoat.
Also does anyone know a good on-line store to but the decals, I have found one place in Philadelphia where they are about $150.00 for the set. here they cost about $300.00.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

On eBay you can find a set for $99 and shipping in US $11.99. It is described as:

"Originally made for a customer's Honda 40hp 4-Stroke Outboard Engine. Also available in 35, 40, 45, and 50 hp models. Decals are cleared with a lamanent layer of UV vinyl to protect against salt water, gasoline, and UV rays. These decals are high quality long lasting decals." Item #320224718664

It is from replicals.com

I do not know anything about them except I saw these decals when I was checking for a Honda engine.

I believe your engine is silver? You may not be able to get Honda paint but any good enamel will do.

Buy some primer and Silver paint. The finished job is all in the preparation work. If you paint any of the aluminum parts, that are bare, you'll need to use an etching primer such as, zinc chromate.

Decals are available all over ebay. I would think someone would/could ship overseas. There may be some that are avialable in Europe.

I am sorry you feel that way about Honda. By your rank I can tell you've been here for a while, but before Honda engines, it was hard to find reliable, first start engines. I remember those old smokey black 2 strokes and that beautiful rainbow shine on top of the water. I spent many an hour working on my Atwater and Mariner engines. Today, most manufactures put out great engines.

Regardless on whether or not you like an engine, bringing a motor back to a stock look is a passion for many people.

ebry,

Sorry if I came on a little strong. That one engine has been a thorn in my side for a long time. It started out bad and just got worse.

Sorry about that.

Anyway, I changed my post.

Unlike a car where you are painting only a part of something large, exact paint match isn't as important on a boat engine because you are painting the whole thing. Even in auto body when you have the paint code you still have to feathered old onto new because of the slight variation in the different dye lots. A supplier of the paint should have the code or a sample chip to approximate the color if you ask them, but I do suggest you use a marine dealer who is familiar with marine applications.

As DJ said prep is everything. Color that is close is never discern by the eye because of shadows and reflection. Bumps, bubbling, and scratches can be seen for miles.

DJ thanks for your thoughts.:)

I did not see paint on iBoats, but I talked the Honda marine dealer here and he said about $20 per can.
