Is there a good reason why one can't paint the intake manifold and exhaust manifolds on a Mercruiser something other than the factory black paint? I know it's a special corrosion resistant paint, but can one use a good quality high-temp paint on these parts instead without any ill-effects?

Actually Rustoleum works great. The parts don't get exceptionally hot.

Thanks Guys... For me... not only would some other color look better, but it also makes it easier to work on the motor because you can actually SEE things ! ;)

Re: Painting Engine Components...

Where did you get this information from?

I thought I read it in the service manual somewhere, and also on a can of Mercruiser Motor Paint, where it says "Formulated for the Marine Environment"...

Might just be advertising BS... because most good quality motor pints would protect as well... ;)

But black hides dirty, greasy fingerprints, etc. Any other color you will be spending much more time cleaning. :)

Re: Painting Engine Components...

Beleive it or not, I had a customer ask me to paint the engine white before reinstalling it so he could see any dirt or leaks. Go figure...

I guess that's practical... in some way...

I'm thinking that if I need to worry about getting too many dirty figure prints on the motor from working on it that much, I may have bigger issues than what color it is! ;)
