Painting cowling and lower unit

I have an '88 blackmax that is overall in really good shape it just needs a fresh coat of paint. I've found the mercury phantom black paint as well as the zinc chromate primer. Can anyone help with what grit sandpaper i need to use on the lower unit? Also do i need to prime the cowling as well, if so what kind of primer do i need to use for that? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I'm interested in painting too but am wondering if there's a source for the decals? I have a '71 Merc 7.5 and '73 Merc 85 both with the blue-line decals.

I dont have a link but there is an ebay seller who sells 115 Merc decals all the time and I believe his ad states he will make any size outboard decals if you send him pics ???
