My house has aluminum siding that has a plastic film/coat. What is involved if I were to paint this siding? Are there adhesion or durability concerns? What type of preperation & paint should be considered? I would like to hear from some that have done their house as well as experts in this field.

Thanks,
Nick

First you need a good preassure washing, then i would try a primer like XIM its expensive but it bonds good to just about anything then paint with Duration paint(if applied correcetly it has a lifetime warranty)Sherwin williams sells it we've been using it for 10 years so far its holding good.

Re: Painting Aluminum Siding?

Lowes has a product Severweather made by CWF. It is a solid color stain. Its main purpose is for treated lumber and decks. I've used this stuff on concrete block, steel siding, vinyl, aluminum siding, and of course wood. It repels water and is durable. They don't advertise that it will do well on other surfaces, but why would they have just one product to do one job. After all they have many other brands and types to sell. It is available in colors and they mix it on the spot. This stuff is excellent for areas that are ground surface level. I used it at a country club and I used it on parking lot poles at our stores. Some are steel and some are aluminum.
