painted 87 Welcraft Elite 222

I own a 1987 Wellcraft Elite 222 that was painted before I bought it, I have no idea what kind of paint was used. <br />I would like to bring back the original color of the side boards. Do you recommend sanding or a chemical? And what else needs to be done after I bring the color back, clear coat, gelcoat??????<br />Another question I have is the boat has never really shinned, It appears that after they painted the boat they didn't put a gel coat on (if the gel coat is the clear coat) any recommendations?

What do you mean by side boards? I have a 1988 23' Wellcraft CC & am very pleased with it.<br /><br />Gel coat is normally the first thing that is sprayed into the mold when a boat is made. It is not normally used as a top coat over paint.<br /><br />Try the search function to get ideas on restoring the finish. There is more info there than you will probably want to read.
