I will not be getting to this point for a while now but I am so excided to finaly getting into the machanics of my moter I just have to ask. I KNOW I KNOW I talk to much. (Well type to much).

Can I use any old engine paint on my engines exterior when I get parts cleaned?

I am not wondering this for looks (OK SO I AM) but more for the protection of the metal. If I cant use auto engine paint then what paint should I use?

Re: Paint ?

Because the motor is mostly aluminum alloy, it requires that the surface be treated to accept paint.

If it is not treated, the paint will not bond, moisture will get between the paint and the aluminum, and accelerated corrosion will result.

Once the motor is in the water, it is one big anode.

Metal based paints are, therefore, a really bad idea.
