Re: Paint question
you can buy the rustoleum in a gloss black gallon. same stuff as your spray can, at home depot.
which kind of gun did you buy?:
the siphon feed
or, the gravity feed
Depending on what kind of paint you buy, oil or water based, you can go with paint thinner/acetone, or mineral spirits/water.
the ratios don't have to be perfect. Usually that is something you figure out as you go.
As far as cleaning the gun, if you used oil based paints, use oil based solvents to clean. water based, use a water base.
NEVER mix the 2. don't clean water with oil, don't clean oil with water. It'll turn into a gunky mess.
and, when pulling out the rear most adjustment knob, you can pull out the air/mix needle. be VERY careful with it, do not bed or drop it. if you do, buy a new gun, you'll never find a replacement.
First, get the feel of your gun, fill it with water, connect it to your air compressor, and start spraying.
there are 2 adjustment knobs, the rear one adjusts volume, the side one adjusts your spray pattern. play with the knobs (one at a time) while spraying some water into the air. you'll see what I mean.
you can move the tip of the gun to have a horizontal, or a vertical pattern.=
Then, go paint (or water down) some clean brown card board. you'll get a better understanding of how it works.
When I first got one I was quiet disappointing with my work, and tried to blame the gun. then my father came along, did some adjustments, and the car I was painting came out perfect. I could never duplicate that for the life of me. But I guess that is what you get after 40+ years experience at spraying.
also, the air pressure must be correct. if your gun calls for 40 psi, don't be putting 90psi out of the compressor.
