I'm about to get my drive back from service with new seals, and it's time for a repaint.

I'll be prepping by starting with soda blasting, being careful of the seals of course, then filling a few small dings with adtech filler.

Then I have some zinc chromate primer, I think a coat of that to start, then epoxy high build primer, sand and wet sand to smooth.

After which... what? Volvo sells rattle cans of touch-up paint, should I try doing the whole drive with that, or is there something better to use?

I'd prefer to make the drive look factory... I'm even considering buying the $85 set of decals with the logo on them...

Ayuh,... I'd think yer Nuts,... but that'd be a different topic....:p

Does Rustoleum make a color that'll pass off as Volvo,..??
If so,... That's what I'd use.....;)

Volvo's factory rattle cans are an off-white with what appears to be a hint of seafoam green in it. I have used them before on a VP 270 outdrive. It really covers well. Any VP service shop should have them in stock. If you're considering dropping a C-note on stickers, the $10 can of paint should be fine.

Will do :)

I've heard (from postings on the net somewhere) that volvo sells a two part paint to dealers for their stern drives. No other info on it yet.

I'd kinda like to avoid the rattle cans, mostly for reasons of neatness and durability.

I did look at Interlux' Trilux paint, but that seems mostly for anti-fouling. One site also suggested painting it black using the Mercruiser Phantom black spray, because it's a nice quality paint. I do like that stuff, but it's still rattle can.

At this point I'm thinking I'll probably try to find a nice two part paint that approximates the right color for the Volvo, and go with that. I am basically looking for a "new"-ish look on the drive, shiny and smooth, that will stay looking good for 5-6 years assuming no major anode failures or collisions.
