Paint for springs?

I've received my new springs and before installing them I want to give 'em a coat of paint to help ward off the affects of salt water. They came with a black coating, so cold galvanizing is out, just thinking about a can of Rustolium spraypaint.

Sound good? Got something better to use?

Re: Paint for springs?

I just cleaned up a small trailer I had for the past 20+ years. I intend on using it in the woods behind my ATV. I coated the frame with a can of spray on bedliner. I got a bit carried away and did the leaf springs too....

I was impressed. The spray on bed liner has been holding up better than any paint I have used in the past. I would not use it on my boat trailer but on the springs I would.

Bob

Easier/better solution--
put on a pair of latex gloves
open up a cartridge of marine wheel bearing grease
smear it all over the springs everywhere you can, and try to force it inbetween the leaves as well.

I did this when I replaced the springs on my Load Rite 3 years ago and after 3 summers of salt water dunkings they still look good. I rinse em with water when I get back and spray em with Boeshield. But I think coating them with the marine grease before any rust started really helped.
