Johannesburg - Paramedics say a person was missing and another was seriously injured when the kayak they were paddling was hit by a jetski on the Vaal River outside Parys.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Mark Stokoe said the incident happened late afternoon on Sunday.

An injured woman was treated and then airlifted to Union hospital in Alberton, where she was in a serious condition.

Stokoe said: "Search and rescue operations will continue for the second accident victim in daylight tomorrow (on Monday)," he said.

He said the person riding the jetski was "relatively uninjured" but very traumatised.

No sympathy here. Ones boat, car, tow package, gun, or anything else that is operated should be under control. Other people or property should not have to be extra observant of fools habits.

Fry them to teach others, so the average citizen can remain safe in peace.

1. Around here the paddles go out in swells big enough that you can NOT see them all the time

2. The windsurf guys pass me all the time in windy weather and thing nothing of tacking or jibing right into a collision ( they can tack in under 1 second just like a jet ski

It is a tuff call of the right of way rules as they are genneraly the overtakeing vessel

Re: Paddler missing in Vaal tragedy

i live in louisiana the jet skiers here are total idiots i can be running 40 mph in a 17 ft boat and they will come head on at me until the last moment
then they break off that is retarted there lucky im civil and care about human life or i would plow there --ss something needs to be done about idiots
on pwcs they think they own the water way but actually they are the smaller craft its only the goodness of the boaters that keeps them alive.
sorry to here about another crash caused by pwcs
thanks bennyb

Re: Paddler missing in Vaal tragedy

The jet fleas here are taking over my local lake too. They had 2 killed this summer. One came out of a cove hauling butt right in the path of a bass boat that was running over 60mph.The jet flea driver was killed on impact, the fisherman was in critical condition...what a shame.
The other jet flea slammed a dock,he was looking back at his buddy on another jet flea and wham!!
I own one that we rarely ride but i stay way off from any other boats and just cruise. No chasing boats to jump wakes. It drives me nuts when a flea is following my boat 50ft behind me.I slow down to a crawl to make them go away..Or i'll trim way out and slam the throttle, rooster tail of water and two stroke fumes in the face...lol
