I'm looking for a bottom carb. for my 1998 V-Max Yamaha. I have a timer base in excellent shape (like new) I'd be willing to trade for a new carb. or one in excellent shape. I need the bottom carb. because mine has an obstruction lodged in it. My mechanic has not been able to dislodge the trash. If now one is willing to trade please give me a price on a carb. (new or in excellent shape). Thanks.

I would think that you could clear the passage with a small copper wire, the passage ways that turn 90 degreees should have a plug that can be removed to clean passage and replace plug. Some plugs have to be drilled out.

CLANTON - Are you sure this would work on my specific carb.? If so, I'll call my mechanic and give him the info. He has the carb. at his shop or I'd try this out myself. He said something about a float ball? Would'nt that stop me from using the copper wire? I don't remember seeing a plug that could be drilled out. Thanks.

Do what Clanton suggested. Try copper wire. Try compressed air. You have nothing to loose.
To give up is not an option.
Good luck!
/Bear

I think the guys are right -- don't give up. But if your mechanic was talking about the restricted passage being in the float bowl maybe he could replace that (as a last resort) rather than the complete carb. I would think that should be somewhat cheaper.

Good luck!
