ox66?

Hi, I am trying to figure out if I have an ox66. I have a sx200txrx saltwater series 2 and it looks exactly like the ox66 when the cover is off, but I'd like to know for sure. Where do I look for this info? On the ID plate it says: 666 x 001546 u. Does that help any?

The other question is, does this engine shut down cylinders when under a certain rpm? I'm chasing a rough idle and a rough engine until I'm at higher rpms, then it runs great.

And lastly, when I did a compression check, all cylinders were at or close to 95. I really thought about a rebuild but before spending the money thought I'd ask the pros.

I should add its a 2000 Yamaha 200hp SX200TXRX

Comes up as fuel injected so yes it should be an ox66 motor. Look to see if it has the oxygen sensor located in the exhaust. Your compression is fine.Yes i believe it shuts down 3 cylinders mainly for shifting. Somebody should be along who knows more about them.

The X in the model is the designation for an OX66 model.

Two of the six cylinders are not activated when the motor is below a certain RPM. IMO they seem to run like crap when not running on all cylinders.

Why the talk of a rebuild?
