Overheating

I have twin Mercruiser 260HP FWC inboard engines. The port engine
has always run hotter than the starboard, even with a new raw
water pump. Sometimes, at idle, it will overheat in just a few minutes
... and the antifreeze is foamy. Lately, on startup when the engine is
still relatively warm from a run, I smell antifreeze coming from the
exhaust. I suspect that the heat exchanger is leaking and allowing
antifreeze to seep into the raw water system.

Is there anything else that can cause the fresh and raw water to mix?

Thanks for your help.

Nick

Re: Overheating

Clanton ... now that I have done some research on the causes and
symptoms of a blown head gasket, it's obvious that your diagnosis
is right on target.

You saved me a lot of time and money ... thank you.

Nick

Re: Overheating

You welcome, I would use a Felpro marine gasket, unless one of the Merc guys on this board has a better idea.
