Overheating on the hose

HI All

I replaced the exhaust plate and associated gaskets, and the waterpump, and whilst doing the idle mixtures and idle speed on the hose, it overheated after about 5 minutes static running at 1000rpm. Could it be a case of my hose not supplying enough water? The water is spewing out of the leg, and the exhaust plate has no leaks. The head feels hot, the exhaust plate cool to the touch. The lower leg ( where the exhaust is) is hot to the touch. I understand that I could just take it to the water and see, but before I do that, I was wondering if there was anything that I should look at before I go? It is a 125 Force 1988 model.

EDIT
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Took her out on the weekend. New S/S 17" prop. I was able to hold 38MPH without a drama, when I pushed her to 44MPH, she overheated again, however, the tacho is completely the wrong one, so I am unsure if I was doing 5500,6000,6500 RPM @ WOT. She only overheated the once, when pushed HARD. I am MORE than happy with 38MPH, she didn't have a drama at all for over 3 hours running at 38MPH. I used just 25 litres of fuel for 3.5 hours running. Just gold. It was sunny, 24 degrees celcius ( its winter here), we saw dolphins, and had a blast. She has a small miss at low RPM, but I'll post that in the forum, but for now, thank you all who helped thus far. I am more knowledgable, have run my own repairs, and have every confidence in the Force 125. It is as good an engine as I have owned, miss fire included :). Thanks again all. Your all welcome at my place for Christmas beers and fishing.

Some hoses don't supply enough.Try it in the water.
The idle and air should be done in the water anyway,J

If you never had a problem in the past with it overheating, it's probably like Jerry says. Hose is not supplying enough water, or the water muffs are not lined up well on the water intake.

Edit- Pnwboat

The only problem pre waterpump and exhaust plate was when the boat was at anything over 1/2 throttle for a period up to 5 minutes or so- WOT that was like 2 minute running then overheat warning. When I replaced the waterpump and exhaust plate/gaskets etc, I imagine that the boat now needs a whole lot more water- as the exhaust was completely corroded and blocked. Logically thinking, the water that SHOULD have gone through the exhaust plate never did, probably bypassing and giving enough water to the head. Fastforward to the new equipment, I think that the boat requires more water- and therefore more flow- than my garden hose will allow. In any case, I'll take it to the water tomorrow and let you all know how I go. I should know after about 2 minutes of idleing- because that's when she overheats now........

Re: Overheating on the hose

When you first changed the impeller. Was it whole and not missing any pieces/vanes?
If so the vanes might be in the tube leading to the powerhead.Just suggesting.
I mean if i ever get to Au. I want this boat running good so I can go fishing.
Do they require a fishing license in Sydney??? :)J

Hi Jerry

The impellor was a little worn, but nothing missing. I'll take her to the water- just not today, it's mothers day, and the wife may change the locks whilst I am out.

I'll make ure the boat is 100% and fuelled up for you- yes, you do need a license for fishing- like everything but, you can do it online! Just so that you can budget for your trip- here is the link :)
