We have a honda 02 30hp motor that overheats. It does not seem to be pumping any water. Any ideas on the problem? Thanks

Could be the water pump or thermostat. My bet is on the water pump, but checking the thermostat is easy. It's placed on the left side of the engine, when looking at the engine from behind (where the "30" number is on the hood). Unbolt the circular-shaped housing and remove the thermostat (just pull it out). Screw everything back together and check for water flow. If you got water, the thermostat is broken. If not, replace the impellor.

Replacing the impellor is a tougher job. First get a new one at your dealer. Then, put the engine in reverse and unscrew the gear system (halfway down the tail of the engine is some kind of opening where you can unscrew it when in reverse). Then, unscrew the bolts on the tail of the engine and remove the tail. Refitting is in reverse order, bear in mind that you will need to readjust the gears so that neutral = neutral, reverse = reverse and forward = forward.

Good luck :)

We had this problem on our old engine (Yamaha 115hp 4-stroke). We'd been fishing over sandbanks with a lot of tide so there was lots of sand in suspension. Give the water intake a blast thru and also the telltale - there was loads of sand stuck in there stopping the water circulating.
