I would like to pass along some information that may help you with a recurring problem with 3-cylinder Johnson/Evinrude outboards. The water inlet in the motor casing was designed to be between the 1st and 2nd cylinders which left the top and right side of the #1 cylinder without a constant flow of water, especially at high speed. No recall was issued to correct the problem but a shop service bulletin was issued and a retrofit solution available to move the inlet to the top of the engine block. If you are having problems with overheating, or have had to have the #1 cylinder replaced twice as I did before getting a new powerhead. you may want to check this out, or get your service centre to look into it for you. This may not be your overheating problem, but it was mine and is something that you should be aware. I can see by the number of postings on this topic that overheating and the related alarm is an issue of sorts.

------------------
Still waters and tight lines

Oldsalt

It never hurts to vent the top of any block. Also make sure you have up graded to the latest water pump impeller. Not the 3 blade one they used for a while.

A very good point. Thanks for passing that on.
