I am working on a 1962 johnson seahorse 18hp. I just replaced the impeller, and all is well in that area, however, still no water out of the back of the motor, and the motor is getting hot. Any ideas what to check ?? Thanks alot, Dave

Re: OVERHEATING !!! HELP !!!

That motor doesnt have the overboard indicator, just the reliefs. Look at the T-stat. It may be clogged, stuck or gone. Most likely it's there but it may not be working properly.

Also if all you changed was the impeller, go back and replace the housing and plate. Very important on that motor. Don't go by "But the housing looks OK and the plate only has that one groove in it".

Re: OVERHEATING !!! HELP !!!

Dhadley; Thanks for the information. I was wondering if this motor has a tstat in it. if it does, where would I find it ? Also, yes I did just replace the impeller. I am ordering the rest of the parts now. I was able to blow air through the reliefs in the back of the motor, and did get bubles out of the intake area. It just seems like the motor is not picking up water. Again, thanks so much for your help. Dave
