I have been having a constant horn warning of which could be a restriction of fuel or overheating. I think I have eliminated the fuel so it must be the overheating. I have changed my water pump and thermostats and it is still happening. Can anyone give me a lead where to go next? Is there anything I can use to flush out the water jacket? I have a camp and when water is low, I really am stirring mud and I feel maybe it is dirt that is giving me the problem but don't know what to use to flush it out and how. Could someone please help me.

Re: Overheating at high speed (over 4300rpm)

I have a 1992 Evinrude Spitfire 150hp V6 Serial # 3102379. I have changed the water pump, impeller,..., the two thermostats, I will check further after reading the forum but I think I have eliminated the fuel problem which is also one constant horn. I have been in mud and am thinking there might be mud. Where are the deflectors I read about, where are they located? Thank you so very much.

Did you check the poppet valves? and also do a compression test..look for a bad head gasket or ring if your head is so equiped.

TMD

Re: Overheating at high speed (over 4300rpm)

I am very new at this, my other boat was an inboard/outboard and I could take it apart with my eyes closed. This one being a 1992, I was bringing in for service but am now retired and would like to start doing the work myself so bought a manual from this site. Can I ask, what is a poppet valve, where will I find that on the motor, could that cause over heating? Thank you so very much.
