My Dads Mercury OB used to have one but I have not seen an overtemp alarm w/ Gauge for larger I/O boats...Are they out there & if so are they practical??? I have been caught a couple of times w/ a very hot engine due to sea-weed wrapped around the outdrive...

usually, from my experience, I/O have temp gauges, or lights. OB seem to have the horns. I maybe wrong, but I have heard plenty go off on OB's and none on I/O. You can get a temp gauge pretty cheap on EBay

Cole-Hersee makes an engine alarm kit for inboards and I/o's that will sound a buzzer if the engine overheats or oil pressure drops below safe levels. Any decent marine shop should have these in stock, and it's $40 or so well spent.
