Re: Overheating Alarm
The boat was probably sold knowing that there was an overheat issue so the alarm has been disconnected. For shame!!!! But, in case I'm wrong (that has happened before --- once I think) here is a simple alarm test. Turn the key to the RUN position. Does the alarm sound when you turn the key? No = defective horn or disconnected alarm. Next test is to locate the tan wire coming from the temp sensor on the engine. Follow that wire about 8 inches or so to the bullet connector. Disconnect that connector. Again, with the key on, ground the NON-SENSOR end of that wire. Does the alarm sound? No = bad alarm or disconnected alarm. It is highly unlikely the alarm will sound when grounded, but not sound when the key is initially turned on. It is possible however, the power to the alarm module is disconnected. On side mount control boxes, the horn is inside the control box. You can get a replacement on-line or at an Evinrude dealer.
