Can you tell me what 2 colored wires hookup to the under dash warning horn? I have the 4 wire loom coming off of the US marine control on my 1990 Force 120hp that goes up to the dash. The wire bar loom extention has the 4 wires on it, purple, orange, red, and the black. Looked like the existing horn had a purple and orange hooked to it but I thought the purple was for a tach? That was an OMC setup though, the boat still had the old wire loom attached. thank you for any info.

yep, that is right. the blue feeds +12 volts to the buzzer, the orange is the "ground" going to the heat sensor on the motor. When the sensor gets hot, it makes connection to the block, completing the circuit.

Re: Overheat warning horn wire hookup?

I noticed that the wire loom to the dash has no blue wire but the red one wire is hot 12v. Could a guy hook up the red and the orange to the alarm and get the same effect? Just thinking about it would this be the same for a 1990 motor? I noticed the diagram was for 1980/84, Could the 1990 be the red + and the orange? thanks

Check the ignition switch, and any wire that is hot when the ignition is "on" will work. You could use the red wire in place of the blue, but if it is always on, there is the chance the alarm could go off by accident (the orange just has to be grounded) and the battery could run dead. Either way, the alarm will be protecting the motor. Just something to think about.
