Last year replaced risers on 2006 5.7 Volvo with outdrive. Everything OK until yesterday when limp mode was activated after running @ 3200 rpm. After arriving at the mooring (after ten minutes @ 1000rpm) tested with a heat gun. Port riser and manifold looked OK, right riser was about 210 but the manifold was cooler, about 170. How can the manifold be cool, but the riser hot, especially since its new?

Re: Overheat question

Its very normal for one side to be cooler than the other by the way,

When was the last time you replaced your impeller?

This april. I know one side should be hotter, but not in the low 200's I think. Plus the computer read a high heat situation, putting the boat in limp mode.

Re: Overheat question

So what does the temp gauge read and what do you measure with your IR gun at the thermostat housing?

What part of the riser did you measure the temperature at? Near the exit, it could be pretty warm.

Did some work. Heat exchanger clear, raw water pump good, thermostat seems to operate good. Hooked up a clear hose to raw water pump outlet, there seemed to be a lot of air. Is it supposed to be no air at all? Checked all clamps except what's in the outdrive, since its underwater. Any suggestions?
