I have recently removed the autoblend system form my 1988 60HP Merc outboard because of excessive oil being mixed with the gas. I notice now that the test "beep" no longer occurs when I start the engine. Does this mean that the overheat system on the engine has been also disabled?

No, I would not think so.. The over heat alarm should still be functional...

+1................

If still in doubt, go the rear of the block (usually) and find the tan or tan with lt. blue stripe. Follow it to the bayonet connection with the engine wiring harness and separate the connectors. Turn your ign key to ON. Take a piece of wire and stick it in the wiring harness connector, not the one back to the OT sensor and ground it to the engine block or black return wire to the battery. If she honks your OT system is functional....as long as your sensor works, but you did nothing to prevent that so you should be good to go.

If in doubt about that, pull the sensor and get a pot of water, candy thermometer and an ohmmeter. Heat the water to a temp above 195F (at sea level). If the sensor is functional you will get a short circuit between the case of the sensor and the tan wire connector.
