hey everybody.....novice ned here.

my 1984? 115 johnson ob has been sitting for a while and i finally got the chance to crank it up. of course i hooked the water hose up to the lower unit and the little hole at the bottom was flowing water.

about 2 minutes after i cranked it up the "constant" alarm sounded and i cut the engine off. i let it cool down and cranked it up. i placed my hand behind the exhaust and no water was spraying out of the exhaust.

i have not kept it running long so i'm guessing the alarm or ground is ok

does this mean i have a bad water pump??

any other ideas?

is there a way to test the cooling system??

is there a process i can utilize to determine what went wrong.

thanks in advance

Running on muff's, you are force feeding the cooling system. If it is over heating, Check impellor for missing blades, shutting off cooling passage, stuck thermostat, clogged cooling passages from sand, ot other debris. Did you have the muff's over the intake?
