i have a 1979 55hp evinrude i ran it at idle for about 15 to 20 minutes . After this i took the cover off and the starter and the flywheell were extremly hot . so hot that if you left your finger on it for 1 second you would be burned. is this normal for every thing to be this hot?

Re: over heating

Sounds like your starter didn't disengage. Might need some lube on the part that raises the gears to mesh.
