Re: over heating

ok, that's weird, i just started the motor
again, and the tell tale worked, and the motor
ran fine for 10 minutes with no over heat.

there is not a strong stream, although it
has been like that since i bought it.

time for new impellor?
is that a complicated job?

Re: over heating

Change the impeller, just in case. They should be changed every 2 years as routine maintenance.
The job is pretty easy and will take about 1/2 an hour.

IF you do a search here on this forum on changing an impeller, you can get detailed instructions. This topic has come up before.

Cheers,
Nav

Re: over heating

why do you think i would have had that one
overheat?
i ran it again, and it appears to be fine.
maybe salt or crud stuck in the t-stat or
cooling passages ?

Re: over heating

Scotty,
Pull the t-stat and look inside the engine at the cooling passages. I have a 2000 40hp which is almost the same engine. After running in Saltwater, dispite thorough flushing, I still managed to get a pretty hefty salt buildup in the cooling passages. My first indication was that the tell tale stream was putting out water, just not a really strong stream like it did when it was new. I cleaned out the caked salt and the water pressure returned to normal.

You may have the same issue, but unlike mine, you managed to get a piece of debree in the cooling channels and it possibly caused a temporary blockage. That engine should put out a strong stream when its running. (weak when at low idle, but strong when at fast idle)

Nav
