Over Greasing Gimbal Bearing

The gimbal bearing on our OMC Cobra needs replacing. When the mechanic pulled the outdrive off, exposing the gimbal, I wondered if it was ever possible to over-grease the gimbal bearing? It looked like the cavity could accept unlimited grease.......Until seeing that cavity, I imagined pumping too much grease into the gimbal zerk might come out the distributor cap ...:D ....Now, my neighbors says he pumps and pumps and pumps into the gimbal zerk.........What happens if a 1/2 cartridge was pumped in each year?

Ayuh,.... You end up with nearly a 1/2 tube of Grease in the bellows......

I give mine about 20 pumps, about twice a year...

Yeah, don't sweat it. just scoop out the excess every fall when you pull the drive.

Next time run it on the muffs and pump grease into it while running.8-10 pumps should do it.2-3 times a year.Salt water will need it done more often(just to be sure).Jerry
