90 hp mariner with new rectifier regulator still putting out 17.5 volts any clues it is a 96 mariner s/no OG175322 no vault meter aint faulty would not have picked up second problem but fishfinder says same volts and cuts out

If you already replace the rectifier/regulator and it still reads 17.5vdc, there is something either wrong with your meter, or you got a bad regulator. Make certain all the wire connections are both clean and shiny metal, so there are no possibility of corroded connections. If you still read 17.5vdc with a known correct reading meter, then you got a bad regulator. Also post the year, model and serial number of your engine. JMHO!
