My 96 Wellcraft with a 4.3L Merc I/O drive's trim works great down/in but is very, very slow to go up/out. What could cause this? I've checked everything I could think of.

fully charged battery

clean all elecrtical connections

Does the pump labor like it is trying to move the load? Or sound like it's spinning & nothing is happening?

Could be a clogged screen... you would have to seperate the pump and reservoir to see.

Re: Outdrive trim up/out very slow

The electrical system checks out great. No leaks that I can see. The pump has a different sound when trim is driven up rather than down. You asked if the motor sounds labored when driving the trim up, it almost sounds the opposite. As if the motor is turning but not building pressure to drive the rams.
I will check the screen between the pump and reservoir this evening.

I replaced one of the rams last season due to stripped threads on the old one. I replaced it with an aftermarket ram.... The stripped threads contaminated the system with water. I flushed the system several times when i did the replacement.

You called it! The screens were clogged. I can't believe the trim worked at all. Thanks for the help.
