On the throttle the button that controls the engine up/down is only doing the down one. It was working about 1 week ago then stopped. Could it be that the button itself it broken?

When I press down, it works though.

Now to get the engine up, I use the 'trailer button'

Any advice what could be wrong?

You use the "Trailer UP" button on the Transom or the one on the Throttle?

Assuming the Throttle Trailer UP Button...
The only difference is that the Trim Up button passes through the Trim UP Limit Switch on the Drive, and the Trailer Up circuit does not.

Check that the connector to the Limit switch has not become disconnected.
It is behind the engine, just forward of the Gimbel/Transom Housing of the Drive.
BLU/WHT and PUR/WHT wires commonly.

The mechanic wants to change the trim sender that;s on the engine. The boat is in the water so i will wait until he has it out to check. I'm thinking its a loose wire since it was working before.

The throttle has the trim for the engine UP/Down

Then I have a separate trailer button that says 'push to trailer'. Since the throttle trim up is not working, I'm using the push to trailer one .

The problem it not the Trim SENDER, if anything it is the Trim Limit SWITCH.
Bypass the wiring to the Trim Limit Switch in the outdrive. If the UP button starts to work again, The Trim Limit Switch is the problem.
If not, The Up Button or the associated wiring is suspect.
