Outdrive toasted on a fine weekend

I was doing the regular thing this weekend, Lake Mead had a newbie on board so we cruised by the dam first. Headed towards the main lake and let the passengers drive for abit and ... WOW engine rev'd high and no forward momentum. I raised the outdie and the prop turned... We were able to limp in slowly and eventually got towed.

Something went wrong in the outdrive some where the engine ran fine, I could feel the splines on soemthing not engaged fully.

Any first step trouble shooting clues would be helpful. Thanks.

First guess without knowing ANYTHING about the engine or drive :) - Sounds like you spun the prop hub. Usually about $40 to get rebuilt. Post what kind of engine, drive, etc, and you may get better guesses.
