We recently inherited a 1987 bowrider with a OMC 5.7L (model #984757 serial #T0090636) with a cobra outdrive. The PO had the boat sitting in storage for 2 years so we are planning to pull the drive and replace the bellows, impeller, etc.
Yesterday we drained the oil which was not milky, although there was a fragment of metal on the bottom plug. We then undid the rams and bolts and started to pull the drive off. However, the drive only came of about 3-4 inches and stopped, we couldn't get it any farther. From reading here, it is either caught on something or the shaft is rusted/seized in or? I have seen lots of solutions online, but not sure how to proceed.*
Should we try penetrating lube? Will it even help? Do we force it off or can that cause further damage? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as we are former "car" people and this is our first boat.
I will take some pics/vids of today's adventure to post in case that helps.
