Outdrive repair of Bayliner

I'm interested in purchasing a 1978 Bayliner Capri. The boat's outdrive needs repair and I have no idea how big of a project that would be.

What kind of outdrive, year of outdrive and size of outdrive? This will make a difference because a Merc may be easier than an OMC Stringer for example.

I'm pretty sure that it's an OMC. When I called about it, the man who is selling it wasn't home, and his wife was unsure of the year.

I just realized that I typed the year wrong. The boat is a 1987 not a 1978. That's a big difference. Sorry.

the owner doesn't seem to know much about the boat which worries me. He did say that the boat had been run into some sand and wouldn't go after that.
