I have a 3.7 mercruiser with alpha 1 outdrive, I went to replace my bellows and gimball bearing, and the outdrive would not come, I had to pratically beat it off, and the gimball bearing seized to the drive shaft. I replaced the u joints and was looking at the upper unit, with drive in neutral, how hard should it be to turn the driveshaft? It turns smoothly, but it is hard to turn by hand, if I stick a screwdriver in between the ujoints it turns reasonably easier. How easy should it be to turn with the drive in nuetral

Re: outdrive problems

You are also turning the raw water pump impeller. Quite a bit of resistance in it, especially when dry.
