Outdrive not going up?

I have an 88' Sun Runner with a Volvo Penta 290 outdrive. My outdrive will not move up when I am running on the water, speeds fast or slow. It also leaks down. What do I have to do to fix this?

Thanks - Brandon

Re: Outdrive not going up?

It's "probably" a bad trim pump or leaking valves. There is a slight chance that it could be the trim cylinders, but have never seen it happen on a 290, but that doesn't mean it hasn't.

Here is a link to the OEM service manual. Now you will have the best infor out there on that system, and it still isn't much.

Thanks, Can I rebuild my pump? Or do I have to fork out the cash for a new one? Also, I checked my cylinders, they still look nice and shiny!

The fact that you can't trim it up when moving leads me to believe that it's the pump valve. Volvo doen's sell any parts for those pump.
