I've never used the one you show. When we bought our boat it had the lugnet style lock on 2 of the 6 bolts. Didn't get the key when we bought it either. MAJOR PITA to get off when I did remove the drive for service.

I dont get it. Is it to keep it from being stolen? I didnt know that theft of outdrives was an issue. But i guess theft of anything can be done. Just dont see anyone going through the trouble unless they had a lot of time, in the daylight and to know for fact that noone would be around for a long period of time. Im the kind that leaves my house doors unlocked, my key in my control box for my boat and the hitch lock is in the up possition most of the time. I havent been burned yet except someone stole my cheap sterio out of my car using my cordless drill that was in my trunk. How about that and they took the drill too of course!

When it takes less than 5 minutes to remove an outdrive and you can sell it on ebay for $500, there is a lot of interest by the local low life (thiefs).. It is very little trouble to steal an outdrive and can give a good financial return.

You should be prudent if you want to avoid a large expense for a new outdrive!!

i actually believe where you live, and where the boat is stored, it's pretty safe. if they want to steal it they are going to case it first, and bring the proper tools to get around it. being in the boat house, makes it much harder to steal, than on a trailer in the yard. also the usual conditions on the river are not conducive to removing something that heavy.

Never seen that kind before but I have a pair of the McGard ones on my drives, my insurance company actually makes it mandatory for some kind of a theft deterrent device to be installed otherwise your insurance could be null and void.

I have not taken off an outdrive before but I don't think it would take much longer than 30 mins you put it in forword and remove the six bolts thats about it.
