outdrive change

my boat has a merc 140, i have a pre alpha outdrive. i assume its pre alpha sense the top plate on it has a hole as if it was for lifting during the manufacturing process. i was wondering if i would be able to take off the pre alpha and put a alpha I or II on it with out having to do more then just switch it.

Alpha 1, Yes......<br />Gen II, No..........<br />You'll need to change out in Input Shaft to the Mod.1 length.......
